This
engine was originally owned by Allan Pitt (SCUDERIA) . The engines were commonly
used in Japan in mid seventies formula Pacific cars and were still being used in
1978 against the all conquering LZ14's. The
engines produce approx
155 hp @ 10200 rpm in endurance trim and were used for Formula 3 and 1300 cc clubmans
in Australia. Allan Pitt also used these engines in 1300 cc class sports sedan
series with success.

The block is Datsun A13, The cast
alloy TOMEI sump has a scraper tray and extensive internal baffling.
Camshaft is a Nissan works 80A
The A13 block is fitted with
a 70mm stroke Tomei
crank shaft. The crank shaft is kept in
position with polished
main bearing caps using 12mm
hex head bolts. Timing chain is a Roll Master fitted to
an adjustable cam sprocket for dialling in cam timing.
The connecting rods are
titanium billets with hot metal sprayed oil retention grooves each side
of the main and a bushed little end. The caps are aligned with roll pins
and use SPS aircraft grade cap bolts. Each rod is 165 grams lighter than the
standard 121 mm rod.
Pistons are Tomei forgings
76.76mm diameter with valve reliefs and fully floating pins.
Inlet ports are 40mm high and
32mm wide. Exhausts are 30mm high & 28mm
wide.
Head gasket is
O-ring re-useable
steel shim type.
Inlet valves are 40mm and
exhausts 33mm. Valve stems are fitted with "Roto"
caps. The combustion chambers are shaped to
promote quick charge burn. All galleries are opened up for better
coolant flow.
Valve springs are hand matched
spring rate pairs. They are colour coded and held by titanium retainer
caps. Light weight
Cr-Mo pushrods are
fitted.
June 2004 update. The head has
been fitted with Australian made Yella Terra roller rockers 1.55 ratio.
Water pump drive is by Gilmer
tooth belt. A mechanical tach drive is fitted to the end of the
camshaft
